Giving Back

Creating impact and change

We rise by lifting others

Giving back is in our DNA. We genuinely believe that if you are in a position to help others, you absolutely should. Our communities’ benefit when we contribute and are connected. Whether you give your time, support, assistance or funds, you always get back more than you put in.

Onten supports several charities on an ongoing basis. Each creates incredible impact with the work they do in the community, and we are proud to involved. You can often find our Founder Michelle cycling for one of these good causes. She is usually in training for her next charity ride, or planning one!

The Mater Foundation

Smiling For Smiddy

Held in memory of Adam Smiddy, who passed away from an aggressive melanoma aged 26, Mater Smiling for Smiddy delivers inspiring challenge events where individuals and communities alike can band together to raise funds for cancer research at Mater, the Smiddy way. Every year, hundreds of cyclists and triathletes and their support networks use their passion for sport to help fight cancer. More than $10 million has been raised since the first Smiling for Smiddy cycle challenge in 2006.

The Mater Foundation

Mater Chicks in Pink provides invaluable support to women diagnosed with breast cancer by providing practical, personalised services along with hope for the future by investing in breast cancer research. The International Women’s Day Fun Run raises funds to support the 19,371 women diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia every year. Every year, thousands of women and men come together to create a sea of pink across Queensland; uniting common cause of wanting to see better health outcomes for women diagnosed with breast cancer now and into the future.

Sisters of the Saddle

Sisters of the Saddle – #SOTS – is a Brisbane based group of community minded, female business leaders who are driven by making the lives of others better. The inaugural three-day bike challenge in October 2022 resulted in 40 exceptional women riding 350kms and raising over $300,000. #SOTS charity partner was Traction, whose mission is to spark young people’s potential through delivering hands-on learning and mentoring programs. Helping young people engage in education, build resilience and skills they need to thrive.

The Smith Family

The Smith Family’s iTrack is an online mentoring program for high school students in Years 9 to 11. Students are matched with a supportive adult (other than a teacher or parent) who volunteers as a mentor and provides the student with general encouragement and advice and guidance about workplace, study and career opportunities. Students and mentors communicate over an 18 week period. Many young people disengage from their education and drop out of school during their teenage years. The impact of growing up in disadvantage creates barriers that can make it even more difficult to see the benefit of completing Year 12. Many disadvantaged students lack access to positive role models and mentors who can support their expectations, build aspirations for the future and learn how to reach their career goals. iTrack works to address this.
